The Dallas Mavericks shocked the world when they acquired Anthony Davis in a blockbuster trade that sent their supposed face of the franchise, Luka Doncic, to the Los Angeles Lakers. And now, it seems like we may know when Davis will make his debut for his new team.
Prior to this trade, Davis had been dealing with an abdomen injury with the Lakers that resulted in him missing the final two games he spent with the team. After finding his way to the Mavericks, Davis provided a quick update on his injury, which held him out of the team’s 118-116 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday night.
“I’ll go through a workout today, see how I feel, and depending on that, get another one in tomorrow,” Davis said regarding his injury status. “And then depending on that, see how I feel. If not Thursday, then more than likely Saturday at home.”
Considering how much Dallas gave up to land Davis, they need him back on the court as soon as possible. The good news is that he appears to be trending in the right direction, as the team is listing him as questionable for their upcoming clash with the Boston Celtics on Thursday night.
“Dallas Mavericks forward/center Anthony Davis (abdominal muscle strain) has been upgraded to questionable for Thursday’s matchup against the Boston Celtics,” Grant Afseth of Dallas Hoops Journal reported in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
In 42 games, Davis is averaging 25.7 points and 11.9 rebounds per game, which earned him the 10th All-Star Game selection of his career. The Mavericks are set to take on the Celtics on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 7:30 p.m. EST, and their fans will surely be hoping Davis can find his way onto the court against the reigning champions.
