If I had told you that of the three guards featured in the Mavericks playoff run of 2022, the last remaining would be Spencer Dinwiddie (after his departure and return) in 2025 — you would not have believed me three years ago after the end of the Western Conference Finals. But here we are, in the dark timeline.

In the hours after this news broke, I focused on people I know who care deeply about this team and the saga unfolding around #77. I thought about my colleagues at MavsMoneyBall and how hard this news would slam into their hearts and minds. I thought about the great PandaHank pouring himself into the best video recaps any fanbase is delivered after each win. I thought about kids who don’t know the Mavericks without Luka Doncic on the team. On a broader level, if you are a visitor of this site, a fan of this team, and love this now shockingly departed wunderkind, I wince for all of us.

I normally write something — even if it is just one line — in front of each video on these posts. I apologize but I cannot do it this time. Instead, I will say that I will write more soon about the unfurling of my thoughts and feelings after this debacle.
