I’m quitting the Kansas City Chiefs if he isn’t fired.

Nick Sirianni has talked candidly about the psychological effects of Andy Reid firing him from the Kansas City Chiefs. Sirianni, who is currently spearheading the Philadelphia Eagles’ effort to prevent the Chiefs from achieving a “Three-peat” Super Bowl, is going to have to deal with a highly combustible situation, particularly with Reid on the opposing team.

Despite being let go as Reid took the reins at the Chiefs in 2012, Sirianni harbours no bitterness or resentment. However, he candidly acknowledges the significant effect it had on both him and his family.

Sirianni’s wife, Brett Ashley Cantwell, was forced to leave her hometown following his move to the San Diego Chargers as a quality control coach one year later. Looking back on that moment, Sirianni admits the frustration and disappointment fuelled his rise to to the helm of the Eagles.

He said: “Do you always have this little chip on your shoulder? Sure, yeah, you do. But that’s who I am as a coach and as a person – I want to make sure I’m working my butt off to get as good as I possibly can. And sure, you hold on to some of those things.”

When discussing the personal impact his termination had, he added: “Did I want to leave Kansas City? No. My future wife was from there, we were engaged at the time, she had a nice teaching job there, she had all her friends there, her mom and dad were a half-hour down the road.

“Of course, I didn’t want to leave there. But when I look at it, God’s always put me in great positions and guided my paths. I know I don’t say stuff like that all the time, but I know he has.

“And so, I needed to go to San Diego to learn, to be at a different spot, to be out of a comfort zone, potentially, to meet Frank Reich. To separate there and then go be his coordinator in Indianapolis. Everything happens for a reason.”

Sirianni’s journey through the ranks of the NFL saw him spend five fruitful years in San Diego working alongside Frank Reich before both made the move to the Indianapolis Colts. After three years, Sirianni’s coaching prowess was recognised, leading to his appointment as the Eagles’ head coach in 2025.
