Women’s Rugby: Norwich’s offensive efforts lead to tie at Roger Williams

A wildly offensively-minded battle between the Norwich University women’s rugby team and Roger Williams University resulted in a 34-34 tie in the Cadets’ second outing of the 2024 15s season on Saturday afternoon.

Five Cadets found themselves responsible for tries throughout the showdown, with Elinah Liaina (Killeen, Texas) paving the way with a pair of tries. Katelyn Looney (Weymouth, Mass.), Vivian Buntin (Middlebury, Conn.), Madeline Ortiz (Lancaster, Calif.), and Kyleigh Beeby (Oklahoma City, Okla.) all scored for the Cadets with one try apiece.

Behind Liaina’s 10 points, Ortiz finished second on the team in scoring, also successfully tallying two conversion kicks.

Norwich enjoyed success throughout the afternoon, tallying 10 scrum victories and and one lineout win. The Cadets forced the Hawks to two scrum losses and three lineout losses.

The Cadets will return to the field on Saturday, Oct. 12, traveling to Brown University to take on the Bears’ B Team at 1:00 p.m. in Providence, R.I. Norwich then returns home for Senior Day on Sabine Field on Saturday, Oct. 19, against the University of New Hampshire.
