Lucy Olsen is a very different player from Caitlin Clark

Olsen spearheaded the Villanova Wildcats last season, leading the NCAA as the third-best scorer. On the back of this, Olsen comes well acclimatized to Iowa in terms of leadership, taking big shots and maintaining composure during crunch-time situations.

However, as much as fans want to see another version of Caitlin Clark, Lucy Olsen is a very different player. She prefers midrange more than high-arcing logo shots that became Caitlin’s signature in college. It is also one of the reasons Jan Jensen has consistently mentioned the difference in Clark and Olsen’s game style throughout the summer.

Clark shot 37.8% from the 3-point line last season and was one of the biggest threats from the arc in college basketball last season. On the other hand, Olsen made only 29.4% shots from behind the arc.

Another significant factor is their distribution of shots. Caitlin Clark attempted 886 shots last season, 532 (60%) of them being from the 3-point line. Olsen launched 710 field goal attempts, with 187 (26%) of them being from the arc.
