Mattawan Consolidated Schools (MCS) has officially commenced a transformative $110 million construction initiative aimed at modernizing its educational and athletic facilities. The groundbreaking ceremony, held on March 10, 2025, at the district’s stadium, marked the beginning of a comprehensive project designed to enhance safety, learning environments, and community engagement.
Community Support and Vision
The ambitious project follows the approval of two bond proposals by MCS voters in May 2024. The first, a $92 million bond, focuses on infrastructure improvements, including building renovations, safety upgrades, and the construction of a new field house. The second, an $18 million bond, addresses the need for a dedicated swimming facility to support the district’s swim and dive teams.
Superintendent Randy Fleenor expressed gratitude for the community’s overwhelming support, stating, “This momentous achievement marks a significant milestone in our district’s journey.”
Key Project Components
Stadium Renovation: The first phase involves the installation of a state-of-the-art turf playing surface and the replacement of the track, enhancing the safety and functionality of the district’s athletic facilities.
Field House Construction: A 60,000-square-foot, year-round facility will be built to accommodate various athletic practices, including marching band, cheerleading, and other extracurricular activities.
Swimming Pool: An $18 million project will establish a dedicated swimming and diving facility, eliminating the need for students to seek off-site training spaces.
Infrastructure Upgrades: Renovations will be made to the middle and high schools, including modernized classrooms, updated science labs, and improved ventilation and lighting systems.
