The Texas Longhorns will be hoping to halt a 3-game losing streak when they host the Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday night. Texas is coming off consecutive setbacks against Arkansas, Vanderbilt and Alabama. There is at least some good news for the Longhorns, however. One, they are healthy. Two, freshman Tre Johnson (19.3 points per game) has been outstanding. He has scored at least 22 points in 4 of the last 6 contests, including performances of 24, 25 and 30 points.
Backing UT has a lot more to do with UK than it does with the home team. The Wildcats are dealing with injuries to Lamont Butler and Jaxson Robinson. Both are questionable for Saturday, but head coach Mark Pope talked to the media earlier this week and did not sound optimistic about either one. Butler is without question Kentucky’s most important player, while Robinson is the second-leading scorer at 13.3 ppg. The ‘Cats have knocked off Tennessee twice in the last 3 weeks, but they are otherwise in unspectacular form–losers in four of their last 7 outings. Given Kentucky’s health situation, this is a great opportunity for Texas in front of the home crowd.
