Dallas Trades Doncic

In one of the most shocking trades in NBA history, the Dallas Mavericks have dealt away 25-year old Luka Doncic to the Lakers. The Mavericks sent Doncic, Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris to the Lakers for Anthony Davis, Max Christie and a 2029 first round draft pick. It is unlikely that Davis plays in this game, as he suffered a minor injury in his final game as a Laker, though Max Christie will likely suit up for the Mavericks. In their last game, they were led by Jaden Hardy with 21 points off the bench in the loss to Cleveland.

Kyrie Irving will be a game time decision for this matchup, he sat out against Cleveland with a shoulder injury. If Irving plays, he is the top scorer for the Mavericks with 24.3 PPG and also adds 4.8 APG. Irving surprisingly did not make the All-Star roster, but his new teammate Anthony Davis was named as a reserve just last week. P.J. Washington missed the Cleveland game with a knee injury, and is another Maverick listed as a game time decision for this one. Washington is getting 14.4 PPG and 8.4 RPG this season. Klay Thompson is the veteran scorer and shooter for the Mavericks, he has lost a step from his younger days, but is still averaging 13.5 PPG, and makes 3.0 threes per game on 39.0% shooting from the outside.

Against Cleveland, they started Spencer Dinwiddie, Kylor Kelley, and Olivier Maxence-Prosper. The Mavericks will have to figure out what their new rotations will look like with new pieces moving forward. The Mavericks are 11th in the league in scoring with 115.3 points per game, and their defense ranks 16th by giving up 113.3 per game. Dallas ranks 16th in the league in possessions per game.

76ers in Long Home Stand

The Philadelphia 76ers are nearing the end of a 6-game homestand as they prepare to play the new look Mavericks. They split their first four games at home, defeating the Kings and Lakers before losing consecutive games against the Nuggets and Celtics. They fought hard in their last two games, covering the spread in losing efforts against two of the league’s strongest teams. In their most recent game, they were led by Tyrese Maxey with 34 points and six assists in the loss to Boston.

Maxey has been their top player this season and is leading the team with 27.7 PPG, 6.0 APG and 1.9 steals per game. He is their top outside shooter with 3.3 threes made per game on 34.9% shooting from distance. Maxey has been hot recently, scoring 30 or more in each of his last five games, including a 43 point game against the Lakers in a win. Joel Embiid has only played in 13 games this season, and will likely miss this game with his knee injury. Paul George has also been missing games recently, and rookie Jared McCain is out for the season with his injury. Guerschon Yabusele has stepped in for the injured players, he is averaging 11.0 PPG and 5.5 RPG, but scored 21 against the Celtics and 28 against the Nuggets over their last two games.

Kelly Oubre will be available and he adds another 14.4 PPG, while Ricky Council IV and Justin Edwards are likely to get minutes on the wing. The 76ers are 25th in the league in scoring with 109.1 points per game, and their defense ranks 15th by giving up 112.7 per game. Philly is 27th in the league in possessions per game.
