The Colorado Buffaloes, led by head coach Deion Sanders, are gearing up for a transformative 2025 season as they prepare for life without star quarterback Shedeur Sanders. With Sanders expected to be a top pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, Colorado faces the challenge of filling the void left by one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in college football. In a significant move, the Buffaloes secured the commitment of Liberty Flames standout Kaidon Salter, signaling their intent to maintain offensive firepower in the post-Shedeur era.

Kaidon Salter, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound quarterback from Cedar Hill, Texas, brings an impressive résumé to Boulder. After originally starting his college career at Tennessee, Salter transferred to Liberty, where he developed into one of the top quarterbacks in Conference USA. Over his four seasons with the Flames, Salter accumulated 5,887 passing yards, 56 touchdowns, and just six interceptions. His dual-threat ability also made him a dangerous runner, adding another layer to his game. In 2023, Salter was named the Conference-USA MVP, further solidifying his reputation as an elite collegiate quarterback.

In 2024, Salter continued to showcase his talent, throwing for 1,886 yards, 15 touchdowns, and six interceptions. While his statistical production dipped slightly due to injuries and team dynamics, his leadership and experience remained a constant. With one year of eligibility left, Salter joins Colorado as a seasoned veteran poised to lead the Buffaloes’ offense during a pivotal transition period.

Salter’s arrival comes alongside the signing of Julian Lewis, a highly touted four-star recruit from the class of 2025. Lewis, considered one of the best high school quarterbacks in the nation, represents the future of the program. However, as a true freshman, Lewis is expected to take time to adjust to the college game, making Salter the likely bridge quarterback for the upcoming season.

The competition between Salter and Lewis promises to be one of the most compelling storylines in Boulder. While Salter’s experience and accolades make him the frontrunner for the starting role, Lewis’s raw talent and potential cannot be overlooked. Regardless of who ultimately takes the reins, Colorado’s quarterback room is in a strong position heading into 2025.

The challenge for Deion Sanders extends beyond the quarterback position. The Buffaloes are also losing key offensive weapons, including star wide receiver Travis Hunter, who has declared for the NFL Draft. Hunter, a two-way standout and one of the most electrifying players in college football, leaves big shoes to fill. Alongside Hunter, Colorado will also be without three other key wide receivers, further emphasizing the need for strong leadership from the quarterback position.

With Salter’s addition, the Buffaloes are addressing their immediate needs while setting the stage for long-term success. Salter’s proven ability to handle high-pressure situations and lead an offense will be invaluable as Colorado navigates a challenging Pac-12 schedule. At the same time, Lewis’s development will be a top priority, ensuring that the Buffaloes remain competitive for years to come.

As the 2025 season approaches, the Buffaloes are poised for a new era under Deion Sanders. With Kaidon Salter and Julian Lewis leading the charge, Colorado fans have plenty of reasons to be optimistic about the future.
