Avalanche coach Jared Bednar called the team captain’s comeback an “inspiring story.”  Now the question is whether he’ll hit the ice when the Avalanche take on the Dallas Stars in Game 1 of a Stanley Cup playoffs series, which will likely take place Saturday night in Dallas. The Avalanche terminated Landeskog’s conditioning loan to the Eagles on Tuesday morning, allowing him to rejoin the team for practice later in the day. While Landeskog was not made available to the media, every member of the team who spoke was asked about the captain. “It brings joy to everybody to see him play,” Nathan MacKinnon said. “It’s a lot of fun and (he) looks great out there.” MacKinnon was one of a handful of Avalanche players who didn’t travel with the team to California and stayed back to watch Landeskog’s return. He liked what he saw. “It was awesome,” MacKinnon said. “I thought every shift he looked better. I thought game two he looked a lot better as well… so yeah, he’s in a good spot. Hopefully he can keep progressing and we’ll have him back here this weekend.” Whether Landeskog is in the lineup for Game 1 is the No. 1 question, but don’t expect the Avalanche to spill the beans until they absolutely have to. Tuesday’s practice was optional, but Wednesday’s full skate will provide a better idea on the lineup when the series opens at the American Airlines Center. If Landeskog is ready to go, someone must come out of the lineup. The intangibles the captain brings will be a factor. “I think that has to play a small role,” Bednar said. “The decision has to be mainly on what he can do for us on the ice, but I do think you have to take everything into account when you talk about putting him in the lineup.” While Landeskog is the focal point at the moment, the team still has a few other injury questions that must be answered this week. Every regular player who missed the weekend in California was on the ice at practice. MacKinnon joked he won’t be playing in Game 1, but he will be. MacKinnon, Cale Makar, Devon Toews, Valeri Nichushkin and Artturi Lehkonen all skated and aren’t question marks for the series. Both Ross Colton and Jonathan Drouin were on the ice and made available to the media after practice, usually a good indication both will be ready to go for Game 1. Drouin suffered a freak injury right before the playoffs last season that caused him to miss most of the postseason, but he knew immediately this injury wasn’t going to be as big of an issue. “Last year was a scary, long one, so yeah, I’m fine. I feel good,” Drouin said. “I just knew it was something that could bother me if I kept playing on it, so kind of let it settle down.” Beyond Landeskog, the two biggest question marks going into the series for the Avalanche are on the back end. Josh Manson skated with the group but was not made available to the media after practice. Wednesday’s full team practice may end up being a big day for him. There are more question marks surrounding Ryan Lindgren. The 27-year-old defenseman skated before practice with Toby Petersen but mostly stuck to conditioning work without a puck. He’s currently dealing with an upper-body injury and there seems to be more uncertainty around his timeline. If both Lindgren and Manson can’t go, Erik Johnson and Keaton Middleton will step in. If only one can go, they’ll have to make a decision on which one to play. The Avalanche are still crossing their fingers they’ll be fully healthy when the series starts. “We are hoping so. We’ll see what the week brings,” Bednar said.
