
A traffic stop has led to a fatal crash on Detroit’s west side. The crash occurred on Friday (April 11) at 8 p.m. on Murray Hill Street and Puritan Avenue. Detroit police Deputy Chief Jacqueline Pritchett said officers from the 12th Precinct initiated the traffic stop. While exiting their vehicle and walking up to the suspect’s car, police said the driver fled the scene, causing them to return to their car and start the pursuit. Moments later, police said they encountered smoke and found two vehicles with significant damage. Pritchett said the driver of the vehicle fled the scene but was later arrested several houses away. Police said the driver, who was a man in his 20s, was transported to a Metro Detroit hospital and is listed in stable condition.
The victim in the crash was a man in his 60s who succumbed to his injuries.
Pritchett said that the vehicle involved in the crash was reported stolen out of Redford.
Additionally, the man was wanted for aggravated assault in Eastpointe.
