Alex Eala will no longer see action in the Catalonia Open in Spain after originally being seeded sixth in the WTA 125 event. She was listed for the tournament but decided not to push through. In the latest draw sheet released by the Catalonia Open on Sunday, April 27, Eala is no longer listed as among the 32 participants in the main draw. Australia’s Maya Joint got the sixth seed instead. Ranked 72nd in the world, Eala is coming off a second-round exit in the Madrid Open, where she fell short of a repeat upset of five-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek. The 19-year-old absorbed a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 loss to Swiatek. Eala is expected to compete in the Italian Open slated from May 6 to 18 in Rome then in the French Open as she is set to feature in the main draw of a Grand Slam for the first time in her career.
