8 teenagers were killed in car crash in Walterboro

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that killed the driver of an SUV Saturday morning.

Master Trooper William Bennett said the single-vehicle crash happened at 12:15 a.m. on Benton Farm Road near the intersection of Rentz Drive, which is about five miles north of Walterboro.

The driver of a 2012 Chevrolet SUV was heading north on Benton Farm road, Bennett said. The vehicle reportedly veered off to the right side of the road before then driving off the left side of the road and hit a tree.

Bennett said driver of the SUV died at the scene of the crash and there were no other occupants in the vehicle. There is currently no word on the identity of the driver.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash.
