With a countrywide extradition warrant, Richmond Police and WCSO detain a “erratic,” “violent” parolee.

RICHMOND, Ind. The Richmond Police Department arrested a man on Wednesday with assistance from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, the department announced on Facebook.

According to RPD, officers were called to a grocery store on Richmond’s east side after receiving a tip regarding the whereabouts of a man who had a nationwide extradition warrant for parole violation.

That man turned out to be 37-year-old Michael Eggers. Police said he was located and arrested without incident.

However, RPD said Eggers “became increasingly erratic and violent” while being transported to jail. This included an attempt to escape his handcuffs, RPD added.

Because of this, Eggers was transported to Reid Health for evaluation, in agreement with protocol. Police said he was cleared and sent to the Wayne County Jail on his pre-existing warrant, as well as the preliminary charge of resisting law enforcement.

“Interagency cooperation is crucial,” said Richmond Police Department Assistant Chief Adam Blanton. “By working together with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, we were able to act quickly and ensure a wanted individual was taken into custody without further risk to the public. This kind of teamwork is what keeps our community safe.”

Official charges against Eggers have yet to be filed. The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office will decide which charges, if any, Eggers will face.
