Warriors risk losing Stephen Curry by avoiding big money contracts to get him help

It sounds like Golden State doesn’t want to shell out too much money.

The Golden State Warriors are in a very precarious position at the moment. They watched longtime franchise legend Klay Thompson leave in free agency, along with veteran point guard Chris Paul. Role player Dario Saric left as well.

To supplement those losses, they brought in Kyle Anderson, De’Anthony Melton and Buddy Hield; hardly a murderers’ row of stars. Their most important move was getting Stephen Curry to agree to a one-year extension that theoretically keeps him on the Warriors through 2027.

Jonathan Kuminga won’t be given max extension from Warriors

Despite the contract situation, many aren’t sure if Curry’s future lies with the franchise. Curry is 36 years old and needs a talented roster surrounding him to get another ring before he retires. With Thompson and Paul gone, up next to leave looks likely to be Jonathan Kuminga.
