Walker Muyres’ mixed doubles squad is headed to the Nationals….
Muyres’s hometown connections and the club’s emphasis on athletic achievement have given Laura Walker and Kirk Muyres, the mixed doubles curling team, a sizable and dedicated fan base. Their adventure will resume this coming weekend in Fredericton, where the National Championships will take place from March 17–22.The front-runners state in a release that they are “extremely excited to get rolling and test ourselves against the best teams in the nation.”Winning the mixed doubles world championship for Canada has been one of their declared objectives. Firstly, they need to win the national title in order to qualify for the World Championship, which will take place in Ostersund, Sweden, from April 20–27.32 teams total, comprising the top four finishers from the previous year’s Nationals and the best 14 teams from this season’s contests, will be competing, representing every province and territory.Kirk and Laura said they are excited to take on what will undoubtedly be a tough field and that they are confident in the on-and off-ice training. The two are thrilled to have “unofficially” qualified for December’s Olympic Trials.
