Unexpectedly, the Mavericks might trade Klay Thompson for a $146 million replacement for Luka Doncic.

After trading Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in a franchise-altering move that landed them Anthony Davis, the Dallas Mavericks may look to make other deals.

The Feb. 6 trade deadline is rapidly approaching, as several big-name stars could very well be switching jerseys between now and Thursday.

It’s well-documented that Jimmy Butler of the Miami Heat is looking for a new home, as he seemingly wants to join the Phoenix Suns. In any case, FanSided predicts that the Mavericks could be the next team the six-time All-Star plays for.

The Mavs would have to part with several significant role players to help this trade come to fruition unless they decide to trade Kyrie Irving, which is highly unlikely.

A deal featuring Klay Thompson, PJ Washington, and Daniel Gafford works financially, or any two of Naji Marshall, Quentin Grimes, and Dereck Lively II instead of Gafford.

However, that is a lot of depth for the Mavs to give up for a 35-year-old Butler, especially because he’s not always healthy.

It’s also far from a sure thing that Miami would want to take on Thompson’s contract for two seasons after this.

Dallas would be giving up one of the best rim-protecting bigs in the league and a plethora of 3-and-D forwards, and in the playoffs, it’s imperative to have enough players who can help you get stops down the stretch of close games.

Considering these factors, it would make sense why the Mavericks aren’t pursuing a trade for Butler, according to NBA insider .
