This day in sports history: Mets top Red Sox in charity game at Fenway
The New York Mets defeated the Boston Red Sox 7-3 in a charity game to benefit the Jimmy Fund at Fenway Park in Boston Sept. 3, 1986. The two teams would meet later the following month in the World Series which the Mets won in a dramatic 7-game series.
