Stay Wolk: Recruiting action for Georgia’s offensive line.
Here’s the latest news and intel in Georgia Bulldogs football recruiting.
Here’s everything we learned in this edition of Stay Wolk:
Let’s start with the more positive side of the news. There will be a big Peach State decision made on Friday night when 4-star Westlake (Ga.) offensive lineman Juan Gaston announces his commitment.
He will decide between the following schools: Georgia, Oregon, Tennessee, and South Carolina. Those first three on the list is where most of the recruiting focus has been as we approaching Friday’s commitment.
Georgia has been the perceived leader for most of the process because of his proximity, appreciation for Georgia OL coach Stacy Searels, and the fact he fits exactly what Kirby Smart looks for from his offensive linemen.
But Tennessee hasn’t gone away quietly. In fact, the Volunteers’ confidence has grown recently.
Oregon is seen as a bit of an outside shot, but the Ducks have been my dark horse in this from start-to-finish, and there’ve even been some people around Gaston who have suggested the Ducks were a true sleeper.
With about 12 hours until a decision, Dawgs247 has asked around on all three sides to see where this is trending. Let’s be clear: There wasn’t a single side of this who felt like this was a slam dunk.
Everyone I spoke with left at least some sliver of caveat to their explanation. All that said, the confidence is highest on the Georgia side right now.
The Bulldogs have felt confidently about landing Gaston throughout his recruitment. Coming off the May 31-June 2 official, Georgia had received some pretty positive feedback from Gaston and his mother.
One source on the Tennessee side told me that he doesn’t believe anybody knows for sure, thanks to Gaston’s low-profile nature. Oregon has taken a fingers-crossed hope approach to this one, which makes it seem like it’s running third compared to the two SEC programs.
