Simone Biles supports Coach Cecile Landi’s leap to college athletics
Olympic champion stands behind Landi’s new role with UGA Gymnastics.
Simone Biles and Cecile Landi go way back-2017 to be exact. Since then, Landi has been right by Biles’ side, guiding her through the highs of Olympic victories and the lows of the Tokyo Games in 2021. But now, it seems like their journey together is taking a new turn.
Cecile Landi, known for her steady presence and keen coaching skills, is about to step into a new role as co-head coach at the University of Georgia.
This shift comes after the university let go of their former head coach, Courtney Kupets Carter. With Ryan Roberts stepping in temporarily, the stage is now set for Landi and Roberts to take the Bulldogs to new heights. But how does Biles feel about her coach’s big move?
According to insider reports, Landi wasn’t immediately sold on the idea. She initially hesitated, thinking it might be better to wait until her daughter finished high school next year.
But after some reflection, she couldn’t pass up the opportunity, admitting, “I don’t think I’ll get that good of an opportunity anytime soon.”
And who was the first to give her the green light? None other than Simone Biles.
The gymnastics superstar didn’t just offer her blessing-she pushed Landi to go for it, telling her, “I’m so happy for you. You need to go.”
Biles didn’t stop there. After Landi made her move public in April, Biles took to social media to show her support, posting, “Congratulations Cecile, I can’t think of a more deserving person.” She even reassured UGA Gymnastics fans, letting them know they were in good hands with Landi at the helm.
Meanwhile, Cecile’s husband, Laurent Landi, will keep his coaching duties with the World Champions Centre, maintaining their connection to the elite gymnastics world.
