Serena Williams’ former coach shocked everyone with her prediction about Coco Gauff’s future

Defeated Jessica Pegula 6-3, 6-2

Coco Gauff’s journey at the WTA Finals has started on a high note, with a dominant 6-3, 6-2 victory over fellow American Jessica Pegula.

Gauff showed command on the court, breaking Pegula’s serve five times and looking stronger than ever.

Her serve, which has previously been a point of critique, appeared refined, sparking excitement around her evolving game.

Rennae Stubbs, former coach of Serena Williams and a longtime supporter of Gauff, recently praised the young player’s powerful serve, even comparing it to the best in the game.

“Her serve is as big as anybody’s on tour,” Stubbs noted.

Stubbs had earlier suggested that Gauff’s success in this tournament would depend on keeping her double faults to a minimum-a prediction that proved accurate in her opening match, as Gauff logged only two double faults.

Stubbs, delighted by Gauff’s performance, took to social media to celebrate her prediction coming true

“Remember what I said about @CocoGauff in the finals. Less than 6 double faults a match, she wins them all!” she wrote.

This match is also a testament to the influence of Gauff’s recent coaching change. After parting ways with Brad Gilbert, she quickly found success under her new coach, Matt Daly.

Gauff’s season has included highlights such as winning the China Open and reaching the semifinals at the Wuhan Open, where she was ultimately stopped by world number one Aryna Sabalenka.

Admitted changes

Following her latest win, Gauff discussed the recent adjustments to her serve, confirming that she made changes to her grip despite the challenges of implementing new techniques mid-season.
