Panama City Beach Residents may soon see a decrease in their water bill, this is because the city is implementing new technology that makes keeping track of water usage easier.
By switching to an electronic read on local water meters, residents can track their water usage from their phones or computers.
The city hopes that transforming the existing meter structure into a smart utility network will help residents save money.
“They’ll have a way that they can access their phone and monitor their water usage each day,” said City Councilman Paul Casto. “If they have a leak in their pool or their backyard, they can catch it before they have a large water bill.”
Before the new technology can be used, the current water meters need to be replaced. Casto says they needed to be replaced anyway, making now the perfect time to switch.
He says residents will see the replacement process starting within the next few months.
