NHRA Carolina Nationals Winner Austin Prock Shares Update on John Force
Funny Car points leaders says things looking up for the boss.
After Austin Prock earned his third straight NHRA Funny Car victory at the Betway Carolina Nationals Sunday at Concord, N.C., he said he had spoken with recuperating boss and drag-racing icon John Force and declared, “It’s all good at John Force Racing.”
Points leader Prock’s takeaway from the conversation with Force was that “he sounds great. Love hearing from him. I know he is really proud of everything that’s going on and he thinks it’s really cool that our family gets to work together and the success we’ve had.”
Prock’s father, Jimmy Prock, tunes the Cornwell Tools Chevrolet Camaro, and his brother Thomas also works on the car. Brother Sam works for John Force Racing, as well.
Prock defeated four-time and current champion Matt Hagan in Sunday’s final round.
In his first season in a Funny Car, Austin Prock has substituted all year for three-time champion Robert Hight, who is on medical leave. Jack Beckman took over Force’s PEAK Chevy Camaro at the August race at Brainerd, Minn., hoping to earn Force a 17th series crown.
Beckman said in August that he spoke with Force and received words of encouragement as he began his quest. Beyond Beckman and Prock, no one else publicly has reported to have spoken with Force since his June 23 accident at Richmond, Va., that left him diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury.
