Naomi Osaka’s actions speak volumes after crashing out of US Open
Naomi Osaka covered her face and rushed to be alone after failing to take three set points and suffering a brutal defeat to Karolina Muchova at the US Open.
Former US Open champion Naomi Osaka was in tears after winning in the first round just two days ago but showed no emotion after crashing out against Karolina Muchova. Yet somehow, the latter told more of a story.
Osaka shook hands with her opponent, packed her bag without a flicker of emotion, and then headed for the exit door as Muchova prepared to speak with on-court interviewer and fellow tennis professional Nick Kyrgios. Once Osaka was heading toward the locker room, she placed a towel over her head and then went out of shot.
The once-dominant Osaka received a wildcard for the US Open, a tournament she’s previously won on two occasions. In the first round, she reminded the New York crowd what she was made of with a stunning win over No. 10 seed Jelena Ostapenko.
