MLB Launches with Live Game Broadcasting and Extensive Baseball Reporting…
On January 19, 2000, Major League club owners overwhelmingly decided to consolidate all of Baseball’s online activities under one autonomous technology company, according to Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig’s announcement. With the goal of creating, constructing, and overseeing the most extensive baseball experience on the internet, Major League Baseball Advanced Media (MLBAM) was established. When the Texas Rangers and New York Yankees played at Yankee Stadium in August 2002, MLB.com streamed the first-ever live, full-length MLB game. Since then, MLB.TV, a live video streaming service that broadcasts every game in high definition to almost 400 devices, has attracted millions of subscribers from baseball fans all over the world. Additionally, fans can select from a variety of mobile apps on MLB.com, such as At Bat, the all-time highest-grossing sports app for iOS. With over 100 original articles published every day, MLB.com boasts the largest group of baseball reporters under one roof, including award-winning national columnists and club beat reporters. Along with a wealth of historical data and video, MLB.com also sells tickets online, offers official baseball merchandise, authenticated collectibles and memorabilia, and fantasy sports. The American and National Leagues each have thirty teams in Major League Baseball. The following teams make up the American League, which was established in 1901: Minnesota Twins, New York Yankees, Oakland Athletics, Seattle Mariners, Tampa Bay Rays, Texas Rangers, Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox, Cleveland Indians, Detroit Tigers, Houston Astros, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, and Toronto Blue Jays. Originally established in 1876, the National League is made up of the following teams: Los Angeles Dodgers, Miami Marlins, Milwaukee Brewers, Arizona Diamondbacks, Atlanta Braves, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Colorado Rockies, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates, San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants, St. Louis Cardinals, and Washington Nationals.
