“Maybe he wasn’t interested in me”- When Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone opened up about waiting for husband Andre Levrone’s DM at the start of relationship
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, who recently concluded her 2024 season after competing at the Brussels Diamond League, once opened up about how she initially had to wait a long time for her husband Andre Levrone to respond to her message, while vying for his attention.
She spoke about the incident in her book, “Far Beyond Gold.”
The formidable athlete published her book in January this year. In it, she wrote about her journey to success, opening up on the adversities as well as the accomplishments of her life.
She also wrote about her personal life, and one of the tales in the book detailed how she initially waited to get Levrone’s attention on social media.
According to the hilarious incident in the book, the couple met through a mutual friend. Before that, however, Levrone communicated with her for the first time via social media, not in person, as he slid into the Olympian’s DMs.
Following this, McLaughlin-Levrone replied and then eagerly awaited his response. She added that she received “lame” texts from multiple guys who challenged her to a race but did not get any text from Levrone for a long time even after following him back.
“So I followed him back, hoping to get his attention. But nothing happened for weeks. No private message from Andre. No comments on my posts. Nothing. Well, that seemed pointless. Maybe he wasn’t interested in me in that way. If he was, I assumed he would have reached out to me already.
“Other guys would send a private message the same day they followed me. Nearly all were lame. I can’t count the number of times a guy challenged me to a race. ‘Let’s race. If I win, you have to let me take you out to dinner.’”
The 25-year-old starred at the Paris Olympics 2024, clinching two gold medals, in the 400m hurdles and the 4x100m relay. In the former, she improved her world record with a scorching 50.37s, while the USA clocked 3:15.27 in the latter.
