With Anthony Davis, Dereck Lively II, and Daniel Gafford sustaining serious lower body injuries, the Dallas Mavericks have been forced to be creative with their lineups in the past few games.
One of the things they’ve done is to have Kessler Edwards and Olivier-Maxence Prosper play as the team’s starting bigs, a scenario Edwards would’ve never predicted when he signed a two-way contract with the Dallas Mavericks before the beginning of the 2024-25 season.
“They got me listed as a center on the box score, I can’t believe it. I got a lot of help from my teammates. Coach is just guiding me through it every game,” Edwards said via ClutchPoints’ Joey Mistretta.

“It’s been a minute (since he played center), a little bit in high school, middle school. But yeah, it’s been a long time,” he continued.
Kessler Edwards has been the Dallas Mavericks’ starting center
Kessler Edwards is listed at 6’7″ and 203 pounds, which isn’t exactly small but short for the NBA center position. The Pepperdine product has earned head coach Jason Kidd’s trust, as he has started in three consecutive matches.
He averages 8.3 points, 5.3 boards, 3.3 assists, 1.7 blocks, and 1.3 steals in 33.0 minutes over those three contests. Edwards recently put up 15 points, nine rebounds, and three assists on 6-for-12 shooting from the field in the Dallas Mavericks’ 118-113 win over the Miami Heat last Thursday.
Edwards will likely spend more time at the center position in the team’s upcoming games, giving himself more opportunities to prove his worth in the NBA.
