JuJu Watkins reacts to Devin Booker rocking “USC Edition Book 1” sneakers in Suns’ season opener vs. Clippers

USC Trojans star JuJu Watkins appears to be a fan of Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker’s new sneakers.

Booker debuted the Nike Book 1 “USC Trojans” PE sneakers during the Phoenix Suns’ season opener against the LA Clippers on Wednesday. The PE kicks honor USC with their classic red and gold colors, paying tribute to the university’s rich sports history.

They also featured the USC logo on the heel along with “BOOK” and “Chapter One” displayed in varsity-style lettering on the tongue and heel tab.

Watkins shared a post highlighting the kicks on her Instagram story and captioned it with a fire emoji.

Devin Booker recorded 15 points, four rebounds, six assists, one steal and one block as the Suns kicked off their season with a 116-113 overtime win.

Booker played college basketball for the University of Kentucky, but decided to honor a different university on this occasion.

Booker is a Michigan native and showed love to the Spartans ahead of the preseason game, gifting the Michigan State team the PE colorway. He also warmed up in Spartans gear.

Rocking the Michigan State PE kicks, Booker recorded 10 points, one rebound, three assists and a block as the Suns clinched a 105-97 win against the Pistons.

The Nike Book 1 reportedly had a poor rollout towards the end of 2023 and Booker’s decision to don the kicks may have been an attempt to ignite their popularity.

Booker’s first signature kicks were distinctive, as they were designed to not look like basketball shoes at first glance. The Suns star said he wanted his sneakers to look like a mix of on-court and off-court shoes.

“Early on, we landed on the phrase ‘future classic,’” Booker said via Nike. “At the beginning of the design process, we landed on the idea of the shoe combining lifestyle and performance worlds. The goal was to create something that would be timeless.”
