Jim went the opposite direction of most racers back in the day, starting out as a road racer and later switching to flat track.
Jim became known as a short track specialist and for several seasons would travel from San Diego and spend the summer in the Midwest chasing money-paying regional races.
He was one of the weekly regulars at the Santa Fe Speedway Short Track in Chicagoland.
