In response to recent information leaks about Luka Doncic, Rachel Nichols has joined the ranks of Dallas Mavericks detractors.

Luka Doncic’s unexpected departure from the Dallas Mavericks has left many questioning the team’s internal dynamics.

Recent leaks from the Mavericks’ front office, coupled with public comments, have only fueled the ongoing drama.

Sports journalist Rachel Nichols recently took to Twitter, expressing her confusion over the continuous sharing of these negative reports about Doncic.

“I don’t get why the Mavs are sharing this stuff,” Nichols wrote on Twitter.

“If Dallas is right and Luka’s habits eventually cost the Lakers, there’ll be plenty of chances to sit back with all the ‘I told you so’s.’ But if Luka wins a title in LA, all this talk is gonna make Dallas look even worse. Say less.”

Mavericks’ growing frustration with Doncic

Reports from The Athletic have revealed that Dallas had significant concerns about Doncic’s off-court habits, including issues with his drinking and hookah use. However, it was his physical conditioning that became a major sticking point. The Mavericks were reportedly frustrated when Doncic showed up to the season weighing 270 pounds, prompting internal concern.

This dissatisfaction led the team to sit Doncic out under the guise of a wrist injury, using the time to address his fitness. He missed two weeks of action but returned briefly before a calf injury on Christmas Day sidelined him for good, making it his final game as a Maverick.

In a controversial February 9 interview, Mavericks owner Patrick Dumont explained the franchise’s decision to trade Doncic. He emphasized the importance of character and culture, suggesting that Doncic’s presence did not align with the team’s long-term vision.

“The way teams win is by focus, by having the right character, by having the right culture,” Dumont said.

“And if you’re not doing that, you’re going to lose.”

Doncic finds success with the Lakers

Since joining the Los Angeles Lakers in early February, Doncic has quickly found his stride. In the games since his arrival, he’s seamlessly meshed with LeBron James, forming a formidable duo. While Doni orchestrates the offense, James has taken on more defensive duties and played off the ball.

Their partnership has been fruitful, as demonstrated by Doncic’s recent triple-double performance in a 107-99 victory over the Mavericks. James, who scored 16 points in the fourth quarter of the game, has also been key in the Lakers’ success since Doni’s arrival. The team has gone 4-2 since he joined.

As Doncic continues to thrive in Los Angeles, the Mavericks’ decision to trade the young star is only likely to be scrutinized more. If the Lakers find championship success with Doncic leading the way, Dallas’ handling of the situation may face increasing criticism.
