How much does New Balance pay Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone? All about the Olympic champion’s multi-million dollar deal with the brand
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone’s dominant performance at the Paris Olympics solidified her status as a top athlete. In addition to her athletic prowess, she has been a brand ambassador for New Balance since the age of 19, earning an annual salary of $1.5 million.
The athlete signed a sponsorship deal with New Balance on October 15, 2018, one year after turning professional. She chose New Balance over other major brands, believing it would allow her to build her own brand identity rather than following in the footsteps of established athletes.
In a 2023 appearance on The It Girl podcast, hosted by Maddie Berezowitz and Azhani Tealer, McLaughlin-Levrone discussed her decision to sign with New Balance in 2018. She recalled the excitement of receiving offers from multiple brands at the age of 19.
“I just turned 19 years old and I am now sitting in front of all these shoe companies and them offering me money and offering me endorsements and I’m just like excited for all the free stuff.
In my mind, I am not thinking about the long-term partnership, who’s going to be the best for XYZ and that’s why I think your support system is so important because I had parents who kept me grounded,” she said. (0:29 onwards)
McLaughlin-Levrone further explained that New Balance made her feel valued, emphasizing their desire to build her as “the first Sydney” rather than a copy of another athlete.
She also highlighted the brand’s long-standing support, dating back to her high school days when they provided her team uniforms.
This history influenced her decision to sign with New Balance.
“Without naming the companies, A lot of them were selling the dream that you are going to be the next XYZ. I felt that New Balance wanted me to be the first Sydney, be the first me and how can we do that? How can we build your brand and how can we partner with you in what you want to do?
They have always been there for me since high school, giving my team uniforms and inviting us places, I knew that this was going to be a family partnership in the long run in terms of whether I’m losing or winning they are still going to be there,” said the 25-year-old.
