Henderson’s LPGA win simply marvellous — on many levels

Brooke Henderson dedicated her LPGA victory in Hawaii to the victims of the Humboldt bus tragedy.

A strong Canadian presence continues this week across the golfing world.

Canadian LPGA story Brooke Henderson stayed true to her roots last week after winning the Lotto Championship held in Hawaii. When presented with the trophy, Henderson, who won the event by four shots, quickly got onto the subject of the Humboldt Broncos tragedy and said her win was dedicated to their memory.

“I just tried to stay strong for them,” Henderson said during a post-round interview with announcer Jerry Foltz. Henderson was also wearing the green and gold ribbon thanks to fellow Canadian LPGAer Alana Sharp, who got all the Canadians involved with the tour to wear the Humboldt ribbons. Henderson is now No. 2 in The Race to CME Globe, just behind Inbee Park.

Henderson’s win was her sixth of her young LPGA career. Not bad for a 20-year-old. Two more tour wins will tie her with legend Sandra Post as well as Mike Weir and George Knudson. Did we mention she’s only 20?

It was a little unsettling last week not to have any Canadians make the cut at the RBC Heritage event. Let’s hope things change this week at the Valero Texas Open. A handful of Canadians are in the field including Corey Conners, David Hearn, Mac Hughes, Ben Silverman and Nick Taylor.

After a few weeks off, the Web.com Tour gets back into action at the North Mississippi Open. A strong Canadian contingent will participate including Roger Sloan, Stuart MacDonald, Adam Svensson, Albin Choi, Seann Harlingten and Ryan Yip.

Canadian long-driving champ Jamie Sadlowski has done a hilarious promo for Cleveland Golf. He is dressed up like an 80-year-old man and catches onlookers off-guard with his booming driving range antics. Search for it online. It’s quite funny.
