A honeymoon destination can be anything a couple desires, but if you ask most folks, a nice stretch of sandy beach and a view of the ocean will do just fine. For a long time, the dream domestic honeymoon destination was indisputably Hawaii, but a new data study from Upgraded Points, a credit card and points travel news site, found a different closer-to-home spot to be the No. 1 place for couples to honeymoon. After analyzing more than 75 vacation-worthy towns and cities, the study found Miami Beach, Florida to be the best honeymoon destination in the U.S. Why Miami Beach Is Great For Honeymoons The study considered 15 factors in categories like romantic lodging, couple-friendly activities, and affordability to determine a winner. Miami Beach came out on top with an overall city score of 71.4 out of a possible 100 points. Lake Tahoe, California came in at No. 2 with a score of 67.5, and another Florida destination—Orlando—landed at No. 3 with a score of 64.8. Miami Beach performed well across all three category types, offering lots of romantic accommodations and restaurants, as well as plenty of couple-friendly activities, all for an affordable price. The study found Miami Beach to offer more than 32 romantic restaurants and 7.72 romantic stays per 10,000 residents, contributing to the destination’s top overall score. The city’s 147 couple-friendly attractions and 31 honeymoon-specific highlights also contributed to its score.
