Former NBA champ turned ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins believes that LA Clippers All-Star forward Kawhi Leonard is the best player to never win MVP.
Leonard is a two-time champ, one with the San Antonio Spurs and one with the Toronto Raptors.
On top of his two rings, Leonard was the Finals MVP for both of them, he is a two-time DPOY, six-time All-NBA, three-time first-team All-Defense, and four-time second-team All-Defense.
For his career, he averaged 20 points, six rebounds, three assists, almost two steals a game, and shot 40% from deep.
Is he the best to never win MVP? With an accolade sheet like that, it’s not ridiculous to say that. He proved to be the best on two different championship teams, was a back to back DPOY, and was runner-up to Steph Curry in his unanimous MVP year.
If Curry was injured that season, then Leonard would’ve won MVP and DPOY in the same year.
On top of that, Leonard has been top 10 in MVP voting five times, and was All-NBA six times, solidifying himself as one of the best in the NBA for six years.
When he retires, he definitely will be a first ballot Hall of Famer when he becomes eligible.
