Early Saturday morning, kids could be spotted at Oakland Terrace Park, finding Easter eggs hidden by the Krewe of Saint Andrews. Eggs were hidden around the playground at the park, and it didn’t take long for the kids to find all the eggs. There was also another egg hunt for kids with special needs. Aside from egg hunts, there was a special appearance made by the Easter Bunny, and the Optimist Club gave away icecream sandwiches. Members of the Krewe of Saint Andrews say they prepare by holding what they call a “stuffing party”, where they fill hundreds of eggs with goodies. They also add that this is one of many community events they put on. “Nothing beats watching the little kids and their smile,” said Krewe of St. Andrews Queen, Judy Biddle. “That’s one of the reasons that we like doing this, and one of the reasons we love being the king and queen.” The event serves as a thank you to the community, who support them as they raise money for the Bay County Council on Aging. “The money goes toward helping the Bay County Council on Aging, in particular the respite center, which helps the elderly.’ said Biddle. The Krewe of St. Andrews will be hosting a derby party on May 3rd, with all proceeds going to the council on aging, and will be matched by the state.
