D’Almeida and Usquiano in Medellin 2025 gold matches

Marcus D’Almeida and Alejandra Usquiano are through to the gold medal matches of the world ranking event at the South American Championships in Medellin, Colombia. D’Almeida, the highest profile recurve athlete here, topped the men’s ranking round with 683 points, then breezed through his matches dropping just two points on the way to set up a final with Santiago Arcila of the host nation – the 25-year-old second seed who is twice an individual Pan American champion. Usquiano needed a shoot-off in her semifinal against Isabella Sepúlveda Mejía but got the job done to face Ana Sofía Hernández of Mexico on Sunday. The recurve women saw the highest ranked archer and experienced veteran Ana Maria Rendon of Colombia fall in the last eight, but the final will still be be an all-Colombian affair with Valeria Yepes Pérez facing Isabella Forero Martinez for gold. The compound men’s final will see 2023 Copa Merengue champion Juan Del Rio of Mexico take on the host nations Sebastian Villegas Correa. The event in Medellin combines a world ranking competition and a continental competition, with team and mixed team events in both, as well as a barebow competition. As well as the South American entrants, the world ranking event also features archers from North and Central America and the Caribbean. Some larger archery nations, such as Mexico, are sending their B teams to the competition in order to gain international experience. Competition continues with the team eliminations on Friday. The world ranking finals will take place on Sunday 25 May and are being streamed on archery+.
