Buffalo Bills on the verge of signing former wide receiver who has had success against Chiefs
The Bills don’t have their receiving corps fully fleshed out yet.
Over the past half-decade, one of the top rivalries in the NFL has been between two AFC powerhouses: the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills. Patrick Mahomes’ team has come out on top in each of the past three matchups since 2021, but Josh Allen’s side has not made it easy.
By many accounts, the gap has widened between the two teams as we enter the 2024 season. The Chiefs are considered a more talented roster with better chemistry. The Bills have lost some confidence among fans, particularly since they traded away star wide receiver Stefon Diggs.
In order to subsidize that loss, the team drafted Keon Coleman 33rd overall and brought in veteran Curtis Samuel, but neither is expected to provide the type of dynamism Diggs did with Allen for so many years.
Could Corey Davis unretire and play with Josh Allen?
The team is still looking for more options at the position, which surprisingly led them to bring in Corey Davis for a tryout on Wednesday.
Davis was the 5th overall pick by the Tennessee Titans in 2017 but left the team in free agency to sign a big money deal with the New York Jets in 2021. After two mediocre seasons in which he couldn’t stay healthy, Davis retired out of the blue right before the 2023 season.
Now, he’s looking to make a return. The Bills will hope Davis can bring some of the playoff magic that led to him and the Titans beating Kansas City in the 2018 playoffs at Arrowhead. Davis caught 4 passes for 35 yards in that game. He was also the Titans’ leading receiver in the 2020 AFC Championship game, which the Chiefs won under Mahomes.
