Representing Canada at the world junior women’s curling championship, Saskatoon’s Kristen Streifel skipped her Alberta-based team to a bronze medal, defeating the host Korean team 6-3 in the third-place game on Sunday.
The Canadians went 6-3 in the round robin, qualifying them for one of the four playoff spots. Unfortunately, Canada went down early in their semifinal game against Scotland on Saturday and couldn’t recover, eventually losing 13-2.
Stars advance in Female Midget AAA playoffs
The Saskatoon Stars got off to a strong start in the Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA League playoffs last week, winning their best-of-five quarter-final series against the Weyburn Gold Wings in three straight games.
Saskatoon, who finished the regular season at No. 1, defeated Weyburn 9-0, 10-0 and 16-0 in playoffs and will now wait to see who they take on the semifinals.
Blazers, Contacts play first playoff games
Playoffs are underway for the Saskatchewan Midget AAA League and both the Saskatoon Blazers and Saskatoon Contacts have seen their first action.
The No. 8 Blazers are up 1-0 in their best-of-five quarter-final series against the No. 1 Regina Pat Canadians after winning Game 1 on Friday 4-1.
Meanwhile, the fourth-ranked Contacts are down 1-0 following Friday’s 5-2 opening-game loss to the No. 5 Prince Albert Mintos.
Quakers, Westleys lead PJHL playoff series
Saskatoon’s AGI Insurance Quakers and the Saskatoon Westleys are both ahead in their Prairie Junior Hockey League playoff series following the start of the best-of-seven north semifinals last week.
In Game 1 of their series on Friday, the Quakers defeated the Carrot River Outback Thunder 6-4 to take a 1-0 series lead.
