
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office says the suspect, David Earl Gipson, is in custody. Sheriff Kevin crews said they had several agencies assist in the arrest of Gipson Tuesday, including the members of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Washington County Emergency Medical Services, the State’s Attorney’s Office, the Medical Examiner’s Office, FDLE, Holmes County Sheriff’s Office, Bay County Sheriff’s Office, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, the Northwest Florida Reception Center K-9 Unit, Holmes CI K-9 Unit, the United States Marshal Service, the Florida Highway Patrol and the Florida Wildlife Commission. Law enforcement said Gipson was arrested in a wooded area just North of Douglas Ferry Road off Pate Pond Road. David Earl Gipson, 40 of Caryville, is still being searched for by the sheriff’s office. Sheriff Crews says that Gipson assaulted, beat, bound, and placed a victim inside a box. “When our ambulances and deputies arrived, she was still handcuffed and still had duct tape around her neck and in her hair,“ said Crews. The sheriff said Gipson could be charged with the murder of the mother-in-law of the sexual assault victim after beating her to death, among numerous other charges. Gipson was described as a habitual offender with 33 previous felony charges. His most recent release was in March of this year. Multiple agencies have aided in the investigation, including FDLE, FHP, and the U.S. Marshal Service. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help locating a man involved in a brutal attack. Officials say around 5:20 p.m. Monday afternoon, they received a call from a man saying he had located a woman severely beaten and in need of medical attention on Douglas Ferry Road. On arrival, authorities assisted the woman, who said 40-year-old David Earl Gipson of Caryville had attacked her after reportedly visiting the woman’s residence earlier that day. The victim says during his visit, Gipson quickly became irate and attacked her. Binding and gagging the victim while threatening to kill her with a handgun. Gipson allegedly continued to beat the victim with a blunt object and sexually batter her, then taking the victim with him to his residence and continuing to abuse her before putting the woman inside a container in the yard. The victim was able to escape and managed to make her way to Douglas Ferry Road, where she was found by a passerby. The woman is now receiving treatment at a local hospital and is in stable condition. Gipson was wanted for sexual battery, aggravated battery with a weapon, and false imprisonment. Authorities believe he is traveling in a purple 2001 PT Cruiser with the tag number QUER21.
