MEAC Finishes the 2025 Outdoor Track & Field Championships’ Second Day

Day 2 of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships proved fruitful for Morgan State University, with three student-athletes securing coveted podium finishes. The Bears demonstrated their athletic prowess at Norfolk State’s Dick Price Stadium, battling fiercely against conference rivals. In addition to the podium appearances, Morgan State enjoyed a strong showing overall, amassing seven top 10 finishes across various events. The team’s performance on Friday set a positive tone for the remainder of the championships.   The Bears currently sit in fourth place in the team standings with 32 points through eight scored events. Host Norfolk State leads with 84 points, while North Carolina Central in second with 62 points. Delaware State has 39 points to rank third and Howard is in fifth with 29.5 points. Coppin State has 26.5 points and is in sixth place, South Carolina State is seventh with 25 points, and Maryland Eastern Shore is eighth with 14 points.

Zackery Dillon had strong performances in the discus throw and shot put, securing silver medal finishes in both. In the discus throw, Dillon launched the implement an impressive 49.86 meters, while in the shot put, he achieved a personal best distance of 16.97 meters. Adding to the team’s success in the throwing events was Demond Smith, who secured a bronze medal in the discus with a personal best throw of 46.86 meters. Smith also demonstrated his versatility by placing fifth in the hammer throw, reaching a personal best distance of 45.70 meters. Kimani Coffee placed sixth in the hammer throw (44.90m PR) and placed eighth in the discus (44.01). KeSean-Jordan Rhooms placed seventh in the high jump, soaring to a height of 1.95 meters. Jadon Ra-Akbar raced to a fifth place finish in the 110-meter preliminaries with a time of 14.17 to advance to Saturday finals, where he’ll have the opportunity to vie for a top podium position. Adding to the excitement, Dante Jackson demonstrated his prowess in the 400-meter dash, also placing fifth in the preliminaries with a time of 47.16. Caleb Mincey and Rushshane Fullerton have both secured their spots in the 800-meter finals after impressive performances in the preliminary heats. Mincey clocked in at 1:52.59, good enough for third place overall. Fullerton finished fifth with a time of 1:51.81. Their strong showings in the preliminaries set the stage for Saturday’s final. The 2025 MEAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships conclude on Saturday, May 17 with events beginning at 10 a.m. including the women’s pole vault final, men’s triple jump, and women’s javelin. Live coverage will stream on ESPN+ beginning at 1 p.m.
