Charlotte Hawkins is in tears as she interviews a guy with Motor Neurone Disease.

Charlotte, who is hosting the show while Piers Morgan and Susannah Reid are on holiday, met ASS Chief Constable Chris Johnson, who was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease last year. He and his wife, Sharon, spoke about the impact the disease has had on their family:

Speaking about her husband, Sharon said: “When we first got the diagnosis I was absolutely devastated, all our hopes, dreams, plans for retirement, just seemed to go out of the window.

“I think as a family now we are at the stage that, like Chris, he has got the disease, there is nothing we can do about it, yes we might only have him for two to five years, let’s make the most of those years and lets make memories for the children.”

Charlotte couldn’t hold back the tears during the segment, telling the couple: “I’m sorry you’re being really brave, this is making me upset and you’re the ones who are going through it at the moment.”

Charlotte’s dad Frank passed away in 2015 aged 78 after three years battling the terminal illness. Charlotte, who campaigns for the Motor Neurone Disease Association, recently told Lorraine: “He died a month before Ella Rose [Charlotte’s daughter] was born, I’ve got to be thankful that I was able to tell him I was pregnant at last.

“He’s with me everyday I miss him so much every day for us it was a horrific thing to go through as a family to live with Motor Neurone Disease and die of it.”
