Man accused of assaulting Myrtle Beach hotel security guard with a knife

 A man is behind bars after allegedly attacking a hotel security guard in Myrtle Beach.

Documents obtained by WMBF News state 26-year-old James Waller was arrested and charged with first-degree assault after an March 23 incident inside a room at the Compass Cove resort on South Ocean Boulevard.

A police report states a woman who was with Waller told police he tried to choke her and threw her onto a bed. When she tried to get off the bed, she told police Waller pulled a knife out of a cabinet. The security guard then reportedly arrived and tried to de-escalate the situation. That’s when police were told Waller allegedly lunged “as if he was going to stab” the guard. Documents state that as the guard called for the desk to call police, Waller reportedly ran out of the back patio and away from the scene. The guard told police Waller was also seen throwing the knife in an unknown direction and wasn’t sure where it went. The police report notes that Waller was later found and arrested in the area of 28th Avenue North and Ocean Boulevard. Records show Waller was initially booked at the Myrtle Beach Jail following his arrest and was then moved to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Monday. As of Friday, he remains held on a $150,000 bond.
