Alec Bohm is included in the Phillies-Yankees trade package for pitching depth.

The Philadelphia Phillies have been rumored all offseason to be in the trade market for solid reliever options, a right-handed outfield bat, and even the thought of shipping 2024 All-Star third-baseman Alec Bohm has been brought up.

In an Athlon Sports proposed trade with the New York Yankees, the Phillies send Bohm to New York in return for reliever Mark Leiter Jr. and utilityman Oswaldo Cabrera.

The consensus reasoning for moving off Bohm is that he is set to get paid after the 2025 season, and Philadelphia may not want to pay a lengthy extension with the hitting depth they have, plus getting a solid reliever in return could help the team fulfill deep postseason aspirations.

Leiter Jr. struck out 86 hitters in 58 innings in 2024 with both the Chicago Cubs and New York Yankees. All signs point to Jazz Chisolm Jr. having the third-base spot, but he is also a true second-baseman so could move across the diamond to make room for Bohm. Bohm is entering his sixth season in MLB and coming off a career season where he batted .280 with 15 home runs and 44 doubles. The other piece of this trade proposal is Oswaldo Cabrera, who might be a player who benefits from a change of team colors. He has his best season as a pro in 2024, but was once a top prospect in the Yankees organization that isn’t panning out.
