Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant was among several professional athletes targeted in a nationwide burglary ring that targeted high-profile homes, federal authorities say.

A source with direct knowledge confirmed to local television station FOX13 Memphis that Morant’s home was burglarized as part of an alleged scheme linked to a South American theft group.

According to FBI documents, seven individuals Pablo Zuniga Cartes, Ignacio Zuniga Cartes, Bastian Jimenez Freraut, Jordan Quiroga Sanchez, Bastian Orellano Morales, Alexander Huiaguil Chavez, and Sergio Ortega Cabello are accused of being involved in the burglaries, which targeted players from the NFL, NBA, and NHL. The group’s base of operations appears to be in Florida, the documents state.

Authorities believe the group burglarized homes belonging to players from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Kansas City Chiefs, Milwaukee Bucks, Cincinnati Bengals, Memphis Grizzlies as NHL team Pittsburgh Penguins.

The break-in at Morant’s home occurred in December 2024, according to the FBI. Court records indicate that the suspects broke into the residence twice once around 4 p.m. on Dec. 19 and again at approximately 1 a.m. on Dec. 20. Neither the FBI nor the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) named Morant in their reports, but SCSO confirmed the burglary took place in unincorporated Shelby County, where Morant’s property is located in Eads, Tennessee.

At the time of the incident, Morant and the Grizzlies were playing the Golden State Warriors at FedExForum in Memphis. According to the FBI, the thieves stole approximately $1 million worth of jewelry, watches, and luxury bags.

Morant, 24, is one of the NBA’s most marketable young stars. He has secured endorsement deals with major brands, including Nike and Beats by Dre. He signed a multi-year sneaker deal with Nike in 2019, which led to the release of his signature shoe, the Ja 1. Additionally, he has been featured in national advertising campaigns and has worked with brands such as BodyArmor.

As of 2025, Morant’s net worth is estimated to be around $50 million, bolstered by his lucrative NBA contracts, endorsement deals, and business ventures. In 2022, he signed a five-year, $194 million rookie max extension with the Grizzlies, further solidifying his financial standing.

Authorities have not disclosed whether any of Morant’s endorsement-related assets were among the items stolen. The investigation into the burglary ring remains ongoing.
