Coach Darrell Armstrong of the Dallas Mavericks was arrested; the charges of aggravated assault are explained.

Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Darrell Armstrong, a fan favorite during his 13-year NBA career, found himself on the wrong side of the law this weekend. The former point guard was arrested early Saturday morning on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon following an alleged altercation with a woman.

According to police reports, Armstrong, 56, was involved in an argument with a woman at his residence. The situation escalated, with Armstrong allegedly striking the victim with a revolver and threatening to fire the weapon. This serious accusation led to his arrest on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The incident reportedly unfolded in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The Mavericks organization swiftly responded to the incident, placing Armstrong on administrative suspension pending the outcome of the legal proceedings.

In a statement, the team expressed their seriousness regarding the matter and emphasized their commitment to allowing the legal process to unfold.

“The Dallas Mavericks are aware of an incident involving a member of our staff and are gathering all relevant information surrounding the incident,” the statement read. “We take this matter seriously. The employee has been placed on administrative suspension pending the outcome of legal proceedings.

This matter is currently under review by the appropriate legal authorities. Due to this fact, we will allow the legal process to run its course and we will refrain from further comment while proceedings are ongoing.” (via CBS News)

However, the 56-year-old coach was subsequently booked and later released on $35,000 bail.

Armstrong, known for his on-court personality during his playing days, enjoyed a successful NBA career.

After a standout stint with the Orlando Magic, where he earned both the Most Improved Player and Sixth Man of the Year awards in 1999, he played for several teams, including the Mavericks, before retiring in 2008. After retiring, he seamlessly transitioned into coaching, joining the Mavericks’ staff in 2009.
