Fans React to Kate Martin, Gabbie Marshall Sighting at Iowa-Virginia Tech Game
The Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team was back in action on Sunday as they took on the Virginia Tech Hokies at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. And there were a couple of familiar faces that pulled up to watch the game.
Gabbie Marshall and Las Vegas Aces guard Kate Martin, who both played for Iowa alongside Caitlin Clark, joined the Hawkeyes on their East Coast trip to support their former team.
The two former college stars were notably wearing similar black T-shirts, which contained the same colored lettering and font.
However, the message on each of their outfits was different.
Martin was wearing a shirt that read, “If Krysty is fighting, we all fight,” in support of Krysty Bujakowska, a young Iowa fan who battled with osteosarcoma. Meanwhile, Martin rocked a top that read, “Jada: Hype Girl,” supporting her former Iowa teammate Jada Gyamfi, who is still with the team.
Basketball fans loved that Martin and Marshall reunited at the second Iowa game of the season, taking to social media to leave their thoughts.
“GABBIE WITH THE JADA SHIRT LIKE SHE SAID SHE WOULD KATE WITH THE KRYSTY SHIRT,” one fan said.
“The hype squad arrived,” added another.
“My girls!!!!!” commented a third.
“Once a Hawkeye – always a Hawkeye,” chimed in a fourth.

Marshall and Martin spent all five seasons with the Hawkeyes together from 2019 to 2024. Along with Clark, they led Iowa to two straight NCAAW national championship appearances in 2023 and 2024. However, both times, they fell just short of winning it all.
Now, Martin has taken her talents to the WNBA, ending her first season with the Aces with a semifinal loss in the playoffs. Marshall, on the other hand, elected to retire from basketball following her final season with the team, choosing to pursue a graduate degree.
