Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone’s siblings: Everything to know about world record-holder’s sporting family
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is one of the greatest track and field athletes to grace the sport. She has consistently displayed her dominance in the 400m hurdles, breaking the world record on multiple occasions.
However, what makes McLaughlin-Levrone’s journey even more special is her Athletics roots. Her father Willie McLaughlin was a track star during his days, with his most notable accomplishment being a semifinalist in the 400m during the 1984 US Olympic Trials.
Meanwhile, her mother, Mary, was a middle-distance runner who competed in the 800m in high school and managed the men’s track team at Manhattan College, as there was no women’s team in 1979.
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone has three siblings – older sister Morgan, older brother Taylor, and younger brother Ryan. Following her parents’ footsteps, Morgan participated in hurdles and long jump competitions representing St Peter’s University in New Jersey. According to World Athletics official website, Morgan last featured in a track event in 2014 at the Piscataway Rutgers Invitational.
Her brother Taylor is an active track and field athlete, who last competed in the 110m hurdles at the 2024 Occidental Invitational. Taylor was a silver medalist in the 400m hurdles at the 2016 World Junior (U20) Athletics Championships. Whereas, Ryan McLaughlin, the youngest brother, is a hurdler who also claimed the New Jersey county track title.
In May 2022, McLaughlin-Levrone exchanged vows with Andre Levrone, a former football player, after their engagement in August 2021, connecting her to another sports figure.
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone’s passion was sparked by her brother Taylor despite older sister Morgan leading the way
Although Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone’s older sister, Morgan, was the first of the four siblings to venture into track and field, her brother Taylor truly ignited her passion for the sport. In an interaction with Maddie Berezowitz and Azhani Tealer on the It Girls podcast in October 2023, McLaughlin-Levrone said:
“When you grow up one of four, everything I feel like is a competition to a degree. My older sister she is 29. She kind of started off with all the sports and we all just followed in her footsteps and then my older brother definitely got more involved in track and that to me kind of sparked my interest because he came home, he was in high school before me. So, he came home with, kind of like the USA gear, like the kit because he had made like a team like a world or youth team.”
“I was like ‘Oh my goodness, I want that so bad. Look at all those clothes that’s insane’. So, that kind of fueled my fire. I was like I need to make a team,” she added.
She even mentioned during the interaction that she and Taylor are the athletic ones, while Morgan and Ryan are more creative.
