Yankees roster expansion: What impact will Jasson Dominguez have in the Bronx?
Major League Baseball rosters expand by two players on Sunday, and the Yankees could use the additional boost.
A week from now, they might have even more intriguing roster decisions, especially on the pitching side, with starters Clarke Schmidt and Luis Gil set to be activated from the injured list.
In the coming days, we’ll offer our best guess at a Yankees playoff roster. For now, here’s some roster questions facing the club ahead of Sunday.
It’s Jasson Dominguez time with Yankees
Timing and circumstance have prevented Dominguez from making any Bronx impact in 2024.
The switch-hitting outfielder’s time might be now.
Since Aug. 14, Dominguez is batting .358 (19-for-53).
Lefty-hitting Alex Verdugo has picked it up lately, and his left field defense is Gold Glove worthy, but Dominguez would cut into his playing time – particularly against left-handed pitching, where the Yanks are most vulnerable.
Dominguez’s presence could also impact lefty-hitting Trent Grisham, a two-time Gold Glove award winner who might be in danger of losing a roster spot all together.
